History

McLean is a community in Fairfax County, Virginia which is not ruled by a local municipal corporation. It was founded in 1910 following the merging of Lewinsville and Langley communities. The community was named after John Roll McLean, the former owner and publisher of “The Washington Post”. McLean is known for its luxury homes and high-end shopping destinations like Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. It is also known for various historical houses including Hickory Hill or the former home of Robert Kennedy’s widow Ethel Kennedy and Salona which is the former home of Revolutionary War hero Light-Horse Harry Lee.

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in McLean, VA

Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is a 117-acre performing arts center at a national park located in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia. Wolf Trap was founded from the Wolf Trap Farm that was previously owned by researcher and philanthropist Catherine Filene Shouse before she donated it to the National Park Service as a gift. The arts center operates the Wolf Trap Opera Company as well as the educational program Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods¬. Wolf Trap was established on October 15, 1966, and officially opened to the public on July 1, 1971. The performing arts center recorded 424, 364 visitors in 2017.
